The largest of the lakes and has depths of 4 feet at the bottom end while the top end has deeper holes at 12-13 feet. Even in the summer the tree cover is open enough to allow the prevailing winds to ruffle the water’s surface making for good top-of-the-water Buzzer fishing. The lake also has a lot of open bank space allowing for easy casting.
Avington trout fishery (SO21 1BZ) lies on the outskirts of Winchester near the village of Itchen Abbas, signposted Avington, opposite the Plough pub, past a golf course on the right and approximately 200 yards on the left is the entrance to the fishery. Follow the track , over a small bridge and you will arrive in our car park. A Map of the fishery is available in our tackle shop and ticket office.
