If you purchased your ticket online via Castbooker, please bring your confirmation email and some form of identification with you when you fish as you may need to show them to a Bailiff (this can be printed or on your phone).

The pike especially are present in substantial numbers, averaging seven or eight pounds but with plenty of doubles and twenties to satisfy the specialist angler. A new fishery record was set in 2005 with a magnificent fish that bottomed out a set of 31lb Avon scales.

Rules

Fishery Rules

  • Fishing from boats is not permitted on Rydal, nor is overnight camping.
  • Rydal water is two miles north of Ambleside on the A591. Pelter Bridge car park is left over the narrow bridge just before Rydal village, then immediately right. White Moss car park is at the northern end of the lake, accessed from the A591.
  • The nearest permit agents are the tourist information centre in Ambleside or Barney’s News Box in Grasmere village.
  • Permit holders agree to read and comply with the fishery rules as printed below and/or displayed on the fishery notice boards and to comply with the Environment Agency Fishery Bylaws. Failure to do so renders the permit invalid.
  • Fishery open from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset. No night fishing.
  • Three rods maximum, no keepnets. Flies, lures, worm or deadbait permitted. Maggots may be used except from 15th March until 15th June.
  • Strictly no live bait.
  • No dogs, wading, fires, barbecues, radios, strictly no camping.
  • Fishing is from the highlighted bank only.
