Rainbow Trout
Shaw's lake is a 50+acre of water which can be found by taking the A28 Newry Road from Armagh at Markethill, take the B134 Glenanne Road through Mowhan Village and Shaws Lake is five miles beyond Mowhan on the right handside the car park will be immediately visible.
The lake contains brown trout, rainbow trout and perch. Shaw's lake is for fly fishing only. Around 70% of the lake can be fished comfortably from the shore. Care should be exercised on the north west shore around what is called the quarry side as access is less open here and wading should be undertaken with great care.
Shaw's Lake is well known for good hatches of buzzers at the edge of darkness and fishing with a floating line and small red and black buzzers will usually result in a fish or two.
Anglers fishing with gold heads, fritz patterns and leaded nymphs can enjoy good sport early in the season. The perch can at times become a nuisance however the perch fry are a significant food item for the wild Brown Trout in the later part of the season.
